Applications for the 2026-2027 School Year

Please read all information below to find directions for applying for JCPS preschool programs.

Our annual application and screening day will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Smoky Mountain District screenings will be held at Southwestern Community College’s Burrell Building. Blue Ridge District screenings will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Blue Ridge Elementary School. Appointments for screenings are required.

Students who will turn 4 by August 31, 2026 are prioritized for most programs. If there is space available, then we will also accept applications for 3-year-olds. However, all children must be fully potty-trained to participate in the preschool program.

Applications

Families may print and complete the forms below and bring them to their screening appointment.  Paper copies will also be available for pickup at the JCPS Central Office at 398 Hospital Road, Sylva, NC 28779 or the Blue Ridge School front office.

• All families must complete the JCPS preschool application below.
• NC Pre-k Financial Support Applications are optional but encouraged. Families who wish to apply for NC Pre-k financial support and whose child will turn 4 by August 31, 2026, should complete the NC Pre-k application below and the Consent for Services. Additionally, you will also need to bring a verified form of page 5 of the application if applicable (must be
  verified by outside agency) or bring proof of income (2025 completed taxes 1040 form or one month's worth of paystubs from all adults living in the home). Families applying for NC Pre-k who receive per capita income should also complete the Per Capita form below.

Cost for 2026-2027 school year:

• $750 per month
• $625 per month for JCPS employees

*August is prorated

Do you receive child-care subsidy? If so, please bring a copy of your approval letter. We accept subsidy and you can transfer existing subsidy to our program.

Students with completed applications and screenings on March 12th will be given priority in the program.

JCPS Preschool programs follow the calendar and school day hours of the JCPS calendar. Aftercare (childcare after 3:00pm) is not available.
