Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th utilize the Fit Lab for a majority of the school year. Students learn appropriate form with recumbent and upright bikes, ellipticals, rowers and weights. Students learn different workout methods, apply the FITT Principal (frequency, intensity, time, type), and set goals based off their personal fitness test results.
Students focus on strengthening the foundations for sport, exercise and physical activity. Students participate in manipulatives, catching, throwing, striking, dribbling, fitness, dance, educational gymnastics, locomotor, and cooperative activities.
Students deepen their foundation of basic physical and cognitive skills as they apply them to small sided games. Units include dance, gymnastics, basketball, lacrosse, tchoukball, soccer, volleyball, fitness, orienteering, hockey, paddle and racquets, baseball/softball, flying disc, football, and cooperative activities.
Students engage in similar activities as 3-5, and they spend more time in tournament play with those activities. Middle school students also utilize the Fit Lab year round. During the winter months, students are taught health within the PE rotation.
